I am watching Discovery channel right now, program "Extreme Engineering".

The problem presented was that the Orbiter when docking to the ISS or any other space station.

Now the actual problem is that a viewing window for the astronauts is made of glass (doh..) however this weighs a LOT compared to the other materials.

Now ... just a wild idea.. why not mount some cameras instead of this viewing window and present the info on a screen inside? ( you can still have a small window for a backup ... )
