Well crap... I started to see all kinds of messages ( ubuntu and win xp ) telling me my batteries of my dell laptop are reaching their end of life ( in power ) ...

Now that sucks .. I bought this (Lattitude D531) laptop end of 2007 and I always use the powergrid ( its connected 24/7 ).
The only point in time where I use the batteries is using openoffice or eclipse in the train at half the screen brightness... All power settings to max battery savings. And this occurs less then once every 2 months.

So rounding up ... the accu is at less then 40% of its power ( " Your battery is able to charge normally. However it is reaching the end of its usable life " etc etc .. ) and this is with an age of nearly 2 years this is really disappointing ..

Did I mention the dead pixel yet? Well a few months ago one pixel ( centered, on the bottom where your windows taskbar would appear ) decided to stop working at all. Even on a black image the pixel stands out. Having the 3 years NBD option didn't help.

Combined with the fact that the harddisc ( SATA 5400 RPM ) and both the CPU ( never buy a Turion if you want both AMD and speed ) are really slow, considering a new battery pack would cost about 100 euros I'm not going to spend any money on this thing.
So well .. so much for Dell I'm affraid, if it fails or my impatience of waiting is beyond normal levels .. I'd probably by an ASUS again.

Last week we had a power faillure at home and my Dell D531 could not make it for even 5 minutes on batteries (accu), running nothing but Windows XP, Outlook and a IM client.

So this weekend I bought a new ASUS, more details will follow. I have ubuntu as dual boot with vista (bah) and I only use Ubuntu for all my needs.
